Burkina Faso's education index is below 25%, one of the factors that put it into 175th place out of 177 countries in the Human Development Index of the United Nations. A few HEC students wanted to change that so they got together and created Ouaga as a way of bringing lasting improvement in education to the country.
A school belonging to a whole village
Ouaga, a non-profit organization created by HEC, France’s leading business school, is determined to help Burkina Faso’s development by doing work in education. In 2006, Ouaga is heading out into the field for the second time, this time, to open a school.
A new building, so that twice as many children can attend.
After succeeding in getting one school built in the village of Pissila, in 2004, Ouaga is going back to work in 2006, this time, in Korsimoro, a small town in an impoverished region in the north-central part of the country. There, the organization will concentrate on the final stage in the school's construction: improvements to existing rooms. A well, lunchroom and three new classrooms (one of which will be a library) will be added to the initial project. This will enable the school to serve twice as many children.
