Assisting workforce development through the protection of exceptional sites off Marseille

In Marseille, Acta Vista is buying its own ship to independently transport its integration employees who work on protecting the built-up and natural heritage of the islands of Frioul and other coastal sites.

Workforce development
France (Bouches-du-Rhône)

Since 2002, the association Acta Vista has made durable workforce development its core profession. Advice to companies, assistance, setting up projects, prime contract ship and running integration projects: it has achieved impressive results, two-thirds of the persons employed have found a stable job thanks to its support. Its speciality is the conservation and rehabilitation of the exceptional natural heritage of the Calanques coastline near Marseille. After having refurbished the zones of the Gardiole and the Fontasse, repairing the ramparts of the forts of Ganteaume and Entrecasteaux, its teams have started restoring of the Lazaret (Caroline Hospital) of the islands of Frioul since late 2007. This project will ultimately mobilise some 40 persons, who will have to shuttle daily between Marseille and the worksite. Considering other operations planned on the islands of Lérins and Porquerolles, the transportation issue has become crucial. With the assistance of the Veolia Environnement Foundation, Acta Vista will therefore buy a semi-rigid boat that will give it more self-sufficiency and responsiveness to contend with the necessities of staggered working hours and urgent transport. This is because Acta Vista, which contributes every year to the cleanup of the Calanques, also wants to mobilise more rapidly in case of a pollution risk.

An indispensable logistic investment

Whether it addresses historic monuments or vulnerable or protected natural spaces, Acta Vista's action is distinguished by its territorial rooting. Very popular in Marseille and Cassis, it has spread through several sister associations who run projects as far as the Camargue. Backed by the city and the PLIE of Marseille, the ANPE National Employment Agency, Afnor, Ademe and CCI of the Bouches-du-Rhône, among other partners, the association, which has 60 employees today, mainly works on behalf of the Conservatoire du Littoral and the Office national des forêts. With this new ship, it adds to its logistic capability and reinforces its capacity for action in the service of employment and the environment.
