According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cholera is the cause of several tens of thousands of deaths every year. In 2007, the Veolia Foundation opted [to combat this infectious and contagious diarrheal disease](/actions/projects/10SD1223,battling-cholera-epidemics.htm). Especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Veolia Foundation is engaged, since 2007, in an international alliance, [the GAAC](/en/gaac-global-alliance-against-cholera/advocacy-sustainably-reduce-incidence-cholera).

In March 2015, Thierry Vandevelde, Executive Officer of the Foundation, has become coordinator of a working group on the environmental aspects of the combat against cholera within the Global Task Force on Cholera Control (GTFCC) set up by the World Health Organization (WHO).
