The non-profit organization Protection de la rivière Mé was awarded the Veolia Foundation's 2023 Student Solidarity Public Prize following a massive mobilization. More than 5,000 votes were cast in favor of this program to protect the Mé River as a source of drinking water.

Led by students from Abidjan's Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët Boigny, the Ecologistes de la Mé association has set itself the goal of protecting water resources: rivers, lakes, lagoons, watersheds? All essential to biodiversity and access to drinking water.

Since its creation in April 2024, it has been working in particular on a program to protect the Mé river northwest of Abidjan. The aim is to guarantee the drinking water supply of the region's inhabitants and reduce water stress. To this end, the project includes measures to preserve the river, create water towers, raise awareness of alternatives to pesticides among the villagers along the river, and reforest the river banks.

Receiving over 5,000 votes, the Ecologistes de la Mé project won the Prix du Public de la Solidarité Etudiante 2023.
