Sparing the children from high risk behavior through sports

To prevent young children having difficulty integrating at the social and educational levels from becoming enmeshed in violent behavior patterns, Mission Possible is investing with them and their families by offering them various socio-educational activities. Among them, sports is a big winner.

Mission Possible

"I find the "sports" aspect of Mission Possible particularly exciting because it sends me back to three years of studies when I joined a youth science socialization association of Les Ulis.We organized outings, participation in events and school mutual aid. This aspect is extremely important because it is part of a multidisciplinary approach to prevention.

"Early prevention means agreeing to change the way we look at children and considering them as our future": this explanation with pious highlights comes from the nonprofit Mission Possible and, more precisely, from its lady president and founder, a judge of the Paris District Court. For the last six years, this new association has been mobilizing to go beyond the simple "identification" of high risk behavior of the children bandied about by the media and the politicians.

Starting with an early detection of children in the 6 to 12 age bracket in a social breakaway situation - usually identified by the teachers with whom she works - she sets up a set of socio-educational actions around them and their parents to forestall any transition to violent acts, to help the children rebuild their personalities and reintegrate in their social groups and their school careers. To do this, Mission Possible relies on a multidisciplinary team composed of specialized educators, teachers, psychologists, jurists, child psychiatrists, physiotherapists, artists, sociocultural personalities and sports educators.

Learning respect for others, self-esteem, the taste for collective and individual efforts

Mission Possible, which is active in the 19th and 20th districts of Paris, has been opening new branches over the years, approached by the communes who stress the importance of its actions. It is thus now established in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, Argenteuil, Amiens and soon in Drancy.

Among all the accompaniments that it has set up, sports has so far occupied a modest place. However, faced with the good results obtained in this area, it has decided to develop sports practices on a large scale. It has accordingly approached the Veolia Foundation, for help to acquire quality sports equipment. The children registered in this section will be offered team sports, racket sports, adversarial sports, corporal expression, aquatic sports and athletics, during a school year. Thus all along this teaching, they will be able to acquire and understand the value of concepts as fundamental as respect for rules, the importance of compromise, self esteem, self control, etc. These concepts are essential to escape the destructive spiral in which they were previously trapped.
