Ibrahim Mayaki Honored by the Emperor of Japan

Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, former Prime Minister of Niger, C.E.O. of the African Union Development Agency, Chairman of the Global Alliance Against Cholera, a program sponsored by the Veolia Corporation, and member of the Veolia Foundation's Board of Directors, recently received the prestigious award of “Grand Cordon de l’Ordre du Soleil Levant” from His Excellency, Emperor Naruhito of Japan.

The award was bestowed in recognition of Dr. Mayaki’s highly regarded contribution to the promotion of friendly relations between Japan, Niger and, more broadly, the African Union.
The award ceremony took place at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, where Dr. Mayaki participated in the formal adoption of a partnership agreement between Japan and the African Union.
This recent award is one of many Dr. Mayaki has received over a long career of public service promoting economic and social development activities among African countries.  In 2017, Dr. Mayaki was bestowed the “Water Prize” by His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of the Principality of Monaco in recognition of his leadership of the Global Alliance Against Cholera and its promotion of cholera abatement activities in sub-Saharan countries, most notably in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
